Hello all. So in August we acquired ourselves a pet duck. We recently determined she’s a girl. She she is almost 5 months now and we have sooo many questions. We have been reading up on this site for a couple months now and are feeding her a great diet. She is beautiful. She is very affectionate. Ok here come the questions.
Do I have to feed her anything specific to keep her lane all’s in check?
Why are her feathers turning from white to pale yellow? Is it because she lives inside and it’s winter so she isn’t getting a lot of direct sunlight?
How do I fix this on her toe?(see attached foot pic?
Will she lay eggs with no male?
Finally what kind of duck is she?

G’Day from down under JackieDuck2017 :frow Welcome!

Sorry, I only have experience with freeloading, pampered, bantam chickens, not ducks. However, you might want to try posting your questions on the Duck Forum.

She is very cute! :love

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. There are a couple of duck related discussions at the bottom of that page you might want to check out.

Best wishes and good luck!

Welcome to BYC.
Lack of sunlight may be a factor in the yellowish coloring. Newly molted feathers appear yellowish when they first grow in.
You can trim that nail just as you would a dog's nail. Trim just back to the quick which is quite evident. Perhaps rub an antifungal cream on the toe.
She will lay eggs without a drake present.
She appears to be a mallard derived cross bred.

Off to find out what lamealle is.

Lamealle is a thin layer, membrane, cells in the ducks beak. The little serrated, teeth are the lamealle.

All I know about ducks are that they are cute and look like a lot of fun to raise. Hope the previous greeter's tips have been of help and the Duck forum (Teila gave you the link) is going to be helpful to you too.

Best of luck!
