Well, it's been something like five years since I was last on the forum. Lot's in life has happened with me since then. My chicken raising got put on extended-hold while I've dealt with some family issues, health issues and simply trying to survive in this economy.

During that time I inherited two dogs from my mother that had a strong prey-drive...I decided I'd hold off on getting chickens and not deal with that situation. Well, the dogs were up in their years and both have since died of old age so I'm back toying with the idea of raising some chickens again...looking on the shelf above the computer I've got a copy of Woods' "Fresh Air Poultry Houses" still sitting there...I've got a box of books that I've held onto, a couple of styrofoam incubators (incubator and hatcher), a turner, and other pieces of equipment...I was gearing up! :)

I've still got to build a coop and run, though, so I still got a ways to go...and on a reduced budget. But hey, maybe I'll downsize from my intended coop size and number of chickens. What I really, really hate, though, is that a lot of the knowledge that I had gained from some really great folks here on the forum, in researching, reading books and mags, etc.,....has disappeared. :( Looks like I'll have to enter that learning curve again.

So, to some old friends and acquaintances and prospective new ones.....hello,....again!!!!! :)

I am back to chickens this year too.....after 20+ years. Got 18 month-old-chicks the house at the moment. They are dusty, dirty, smelly and I wouldn't miss it for the world. Hope you have as much fun getting reacquainted with gallus domesticus as I am. Best of luck to you!

Hi and welcome back to BYC - I'm sure its just like riding a bicycle - you'll be back in the swing of things before you know it. Good luck with your coop build!

Best wishes

Thanks for the welcomes!!! I'm still thinking about diving in...just a lot still happening...I'll have to see what life brings to me. :)
