Hey friends, I haven't been on for years (TaylorC), so I just made a new account.
I got a tremendous amount of help and support on my last coop build, and loads of help on a few health issues, etc.
We just had a catastophic fox event, and lost 5 of our six hens. Seems we left the run open. (That $250 for an automatic door is looking cheaper and cheaper.) Dogs were going nuts at 2AM and I went out in the pitch black to a murder scene. It was apparently a mother training her pups, since none were eaten, just killed on the spot. Horror.

So ANYWAY, it seemed a good time to demo our 8-y.o. coop and build another in a better spot based on our years of experience. My wife and I back with another wheelbarrow of questions.
Thanks for having us.

Hi and :welcome back. Sorry for your loss, hate hate foxes, 5 yrs ago a
fox took 16 of ours, forgot to lock them up. Grrrr What a mess, he got over
our 6ft wall, but where our girls were heavy, he could not get any back over.
So they were everywhere. To this day, i blame myself, our 3 coops were on the top
of our garden, fenced off. Did not even know we had foxes, as we are in UK and live in a village. Plus before the fox came had them 7yrs. But always locked them up. Until one
stupid night. I then said after the horrific sight of our girls, waited 5yrs until we had
more. Then in Feb, my husband + boys, built a secure double coop with enclosed
large run, and roof. Further down the garden, it is like Fort Knox lol. We have 12 girls, as not allowed Roosters. I am certain that you also will build it like Fort Knox too. lol
Wishing you all the best, good luck.:frow
