Hello all. Can anyone tell me what chickens I have?

Hello. My friend recently started saving chickens. And among them got me 3 beautiful girls that she was told are silkre bantem cross. But when I have been trying to research them on net I can't figure out if that is right. None have that poofy hair do that seems to be associated with silkies. They do have 5 toes and feathered feet

They are around 3 months old. Mostly feathers on top, but more like fluff underneath and bum area

Glad you could join the flock! From looking at your pics I would say yes they are silkie cross birds. As for how big they will grow only time will tell as you don't know what they are crossed by. The five toes and feathered legs do point to silkie. As they are crossed probably by a non crested breed they have taken after that parent bird in the head department. It's nice of you to be saving chickens.

Do they have black skin? They do seem to look very affectionate in your photo. You may want to post photos on the Silkie thread and see is anyone can venture an opinion of the cross involved. Welcome to BYC.

I love these little creatures so much. More than I thought I love a bird. I also have 18 cats and 2 guinea pigs. They all walk round room getting along together.

How about flying? I ask cos I thought chickens were flightless birds but mine can now fly up to the top of my door and perch there.


Yes they are quite affectionate, I am so lucky, I get to spend practically all day with them. During they they are still stand offish, but after 6 pm, I sit down to watch something on tv, thats when they join me. First on back of sofa then onto my shoulders

I feel so honoured to have gained their trust
