Hiya everyone- I'm Kat from Cortland, NY area and just recently moved back home to NY from NC where I was caring for my elderly father. My son and I want to raise some free range chickens here on this farm property we rent ( the cows outnumber the citizens here). At first we were thinking of just ordering chicks but with the need for heat lamps, speciall considerations and with the cats in the home we decided to try to either rescue some hens and a rooster locally or purchase pullets already started. At any rate I saw this group and decided to join, hoping for some much needed advice!

Hi :welcome Kat

Glad you could join the flock! I'm sure you will enjoy your new chicken adventures very much. They are lots of fun and very rewarding too. Have you checked out the learning centre? Lots if fab articles there to help you get started. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Wishing you the very best of luck, be sure to ask any questions the forum really does have a section for everything.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC. X3 on Yorkshire coop's post.

Welcome! Craigslist often has listings for grown chickens. If you join your state's thread, there may be some members looking to sell or rehome some of their flock too. Good luck!
