Hi, I’m Emily.
I am relatively new to chicken raising. I started my first backyard flock 2 years ago with 6 Barred Rock hens. They had reached maturity and were laying but unfortunately, 5 out of my 6 got eaten by what we believe was a skunk while we were on vacation. I still have one of the original 5 in my current flock (a.k.a “Lucky”).

The following spring, I got 6 more hens:
3 Rhode Island Reds
2 Gold Laced Wyandottes
1 Black Australorp
(Plus “Lucky” my original Barred Rock)

This spring, I decided I didn’t have enough chickens in my life and bought 4 bantam chicks when I was only supposed to be buying chicken feed...oops, sorry honey. 🤪🤷‍♀️😍🐔 Now I’m up to 11! But who’s counting (besides my husband)???

Anyway, I am unsure what little bantam breeds I have or if they are hens or Roos! I’m pretty sure we have a Blue-Red Laced Wyandotte (who is looking suspiciously like a boy) and a Buff Brahma but the other two I don’t know. I’ve already posted a few (not-so-great) pictures of them in the “what breed/sex is this?” thread. I am planning on taking better pictures tomorrow and posting them to see what we have. One black bantam chick has a well-developed, bright red comb and basically no tail feathers so, I definitely think I have at least one cockerel in the mix (possibly 2). Yikes! 😱 I’ve never had roosters and have no idea if my boys will “play nice.”

Well, that’s my chicken story...I joined BYC because I am curious what bantam chicken breeds I have and if they are Roos or hens...Wish me luck!

Looking forward to getting to know this cool community and learning from your wealth of knowledge! Thanks!

-Emily
