Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My husband and I are brand new to the chicken world
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
5 hens
(3) What breeds do you have?
I don't know yet. We purchased adult layers from a farm that is down-sizing. She purchased a "hen special," and did not know either.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
all the research needed lately, this website always came up!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
gardening, sewing, bread making, hiking.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am a stay at home mama. We have 2 small dogs. A chihuahua and a pomchi. The chihuahua is overly excited about our new friends! We have an adult cat and a new kitten, both of whom could care less.
So we purchased our hens Thursday, and found our first egg today. Super excited! However, the hen that probably layed it was having trouble walking for a bit afterward. I became concerned, and found no information about this behavior or sign of distress. After about 1/2 hour, she is up and walking fine. Anyhoo, all is well in our new adventure. Hope it stays this smooth for a while!
