My name is Sarah and I am excited to join this site. I had seven chickens about five years ago, but due to my divorce, and subsequent move, I was forced to get rid of my chickens. I am finally in a home where I can have chickens again, and I am excited to start a new flock this Spring. I will probably just start with three chickens, this time, since I do not have as much property as I did previously. Also, I only had the chickens for about six months, and so I still have a lot to learn, and I look forward to doing so, on this site.

Well, I previously had ordered from Murray Mcmurray Hatchery and split an order with someone else. We got all Red Stars. This time, since I am just getting three hens, I will probably go to Tractor Supply, or Family Farm and Home. I haven't completely decided which breeds to get, but I am looking at Barred Rocks and Ameraucanas. Do you have any suggestions?

:frow Welcome fellow Michigander! We've got 3 Ameraucanas, 2 Isa Brown and 1 Rhode Island red. I like the Isa's best, they lay frequently & have large eggs. I get from TSC or FFH too. Last year though one turned out to be a rooster. (He's gone now ;))
Thank you for the input!

Hi! Welcome to BYC! The chicken world is happy to have you back!! I am partial to Buff Orpingtons, and I have 3 Lavender Orpingtons at 5 mos old that are stealing my heart! I also love Australorps, so basically, I recommend Orpingtons of any variety. :D This is the place to be while you are raising and learning about your chicks!!! There is loads of information and friendly folks here to help you along the way!!!
