Hello everyone, nice to meet you! My name's Michelle and I live in northern California in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am excited to hopefully get our first flock going this spring.

I had the opportunity to help take care of my sister's family's new flock (three golden comets) over the holidays. It was such a treat to collect the fresh eggs every morning, toss them handfuls of scratch, and just watch them live life! It got me really interested in having a flock of our own.

Our yard is spacious but long neglected, so we (well, mostly me :)) will be trying to build a coop and run more or less from scratch. I am hoping, maybe optimistically, to use upcycled materials to reduce both waste and cost. I don't have a lot of constructing experience but want to learn these skills, so I am also thinking about how to balance buying pre-fab aspects vs budget vs time, etc.

In any case, it will be a challenging and worthwhile project! I've already learned a lot just browsing the BYC forums and busily browsing the web.

In the day, I work for an education nonprofit. My other hobbies include reading, gardening, and surfing.

Thanks for reading! Glad to be here.
