hello all I am the proud owner of lulu and lili two pure white silkie chickens 9 weeks old I have had chickens a while but nothing quite like this everyone says I should show them but how old do they have to be to start showing:cd

I'm not sure how old they have to be, but make sure to be careful with them at the show. Lots of diseases can spread there. That's the only reason I haven't entered my old English game in the fair.

Also silkies are very difficult to sex before 4-5 mos. .Some don't reveal themselves till they crow or lay eggs. I would imagine you have to know their correct sex to enter a show.

Are these hatchery silkies or from a breeder? I ask because hatchery silkies are often nothing like the beautiful show silkies that would be entered. Do your birds have the black skin, 5 toes on each foot, feathering on feet etc. What ever amount of comb they have at current age should be BLACK.

You could post photos at "Silkie thread," asking about showing and what they think about your birds.
