Welcome back! As a fellow Texan I can only advise you to ensure there is plenty of cover to protect those Polish from the Red Tailed Hawks and other predators and have a coon/possum proof coop for them at night. Investigate dog proof snares and use cat food to get those free hides that want to visit the new meat market that just opened up in your backyard. Most of the highly crested breeds are not known for being very observant of overhead threats. Best wishes! :frow (edit)I wanted to also suggest that your coop roof be strong enough to support the weight of anything from a bobcat to a mountain lion as well because they will be up there too trying to find a way in! Anyway in Texas in defense of livestock the landowner has every right to take any threat by any means desired.

Greetings and welcome back to BYC! So glad you rejoined us and are getting back into chickens. In case you didn't know, dogs are the #1 killer of small livestock... strays, the neighbor's and YOURS. Hope your coop and run hold up better this time. :fl There's still a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what new & interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

Where are you in East TX? I'm in Titus county off I-30. Hope you're faring well with all the rain we've been getting. My animals area is a mud pit.

Oh, if you haven't done so already, PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile. It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. Old folks like me will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear.
