Duck-duck-chicken!
Hi everyone! I’m new to BYC (for posting that is) but I’ve been perusing the boards here since I started planning my duck flock.
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I’ve never had chickens, helped with friends and neighbours birds and didn’t want chooks myself. Ducks, on the other hand have always fascinated me and I’ve recently found myself in the position to obtain some of my own.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None. Lol. But I have 4 ducklings and a gosling.
(3) What breeds do you have?
2 silver appleyards (a duck and a drake), 2 crested Swedish, one of which I think is classic blue and the other looks to be a silver, and a Toulouse gosling.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
How snuggly these guys are! The drake is 100% a pet, he sleeps in my arms when I pick him up and comes running when I walk in their pen.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I work at a large animal vet clinic, and love it. I also enjoy spending time with my other critters (a horse, a Holstein steer, a dog, and 2 cats) and my “borrowed” cow herd that stays for the summer.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
See above. Lol.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I’ve been reading posts on this forum since my decision in March to obtain my own birds. I love seeing the pictures of everyone else’s flocks and the interesting stories from multiple areas (and countries!)
Nice to meet y’all and looking forward to being a part of this community.
