We are Aggiemae, Kevin (DH) Will, Judah and Arron (kids). Last spring after adopting two kids, we had to admit that with three teen aged boys, four dogs and two cats we had outgrown our 540 sq foot cottage on 40x80 urban lot and we moved the suburbs.and now have a big house on a sunny 1/2 acre.
And it seems that we have embraced urban farming. So far we have cut back a 95 foot long 18 foot deep Laural hedge, cut down two (huge) dead cedar trees, and burned or hauled away twenty years and hundreds (thousands?) of pounds of dead wood, broken down fencing, broken glass and everything else that goes with 20 years of general neglect and at this point we pretty much have 1/2 acre of weeds and mud and big plans.
Though I have started a (rubbermaid tote) worm farm, ordered 6 chicks at the feed store, a beehive on EBay and green house kit from a local nursery. I have also enrolled in a "chicks 101" seminar and a bee keeping class.
"Chick day" is April 7th and the chicks will be living in our toasty warn utility room until we finish the fence and built their coop. Our plan for the next 6 weeks is to built the coop, plant our first vegetable garden and dig our pond. But, of course, before we can start the fun stuff, we need to finish rebuilding out fence, plant our bamboo and built a retaining wall of the back corner off the yard to keep our Yard from becoming out neighbor's yard...
I am also thinking of starting a bog to chronical our suburban adventures
Anyway..I am glad to have found this site, it's been very helpful already and I know I am going to have lots and lots of questions over the next few months.
