I'm a new BYC member in Central Florida and I've just built my first coop and am looking for laying hens. I'd like a hearty breed with high yield/larger size eggs. Chickens are my first step toward becoming self-sufficient. My ultimate goal is to own some land with cows (dairy and beef), horses, chickens and crops. But for now, we're trying chickens. Does anybody have any breed suggestions and/or know where I can get them in the Central Florida area? Thanks to all!

! Great to have you here! I agree about checking out the Florida thread as suggested by 1muttsfan. I would also advise taking a gander at the breed thread here https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/category/chicken-breeds to learn more about breeds suited for your area. Good luck to you!!
