Hi there, name's Amanda.
I just joined the chicken crew 2 days ago.
I had been thinking of getting chickens for a while but didn't think I had the space, or didn't think I had the time, or whatever excuse. Wanted them for the eggs and the hopeful pest control (we get nasty scary bugs out here, but my main concern was scorpions and cockroaches).
I kind of got thrown 4 chicks (pullets?) the other day. Supposedly the rooster was an Orpington, and I have no idea what the hen was, but the chicks are kinda cute.
I thought I had set up a decent enough coop with work to progress as they aged and I messed up my back pretty bad the day I got them so I hoped they'd be ok in their area... But sure enough, within 2 hours of having them 1 escaped. A few hours later 2 more did. I was able to catch the last two but the first one was missing until last night actually. Neighbor found it and brought it back.
So thus far I haven't enjoyed my chicken experience.
I was told these guys were hand raised, and maybe that's true, but they seem to be terrified of everything.

So those are my little ones. They are currently locked in a "ghetto" coop until my back heals enough to fix up the run and coop.
The eventual hope is to give them my full side yard (70ft x 8 ft).

! Pleased you joined us but sorry you're off to a rocky start with your flock! Some treats (meal worms are great) will go a long way to taming them down. One you get the coop situation in order things will get easier. Good luck to you!

Welcome to BYC!!!
