First timer here and excited to raise my first flock! Planning and getting ready for a dozen chicks here in 2 weeks. Cant wait to learn and grow along with my new flock! Anxious to see what info I can pick up from all you seasoned vets! So glad to be here and psyched to share my experiences as a first timer.

Living outside Johnstown, PA....any advice on where would be the best place to purchase my first pullets? I was looking into the local Tractor Supply. Good idea?? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Justine

Welcome.
What breeds were u looking into? If u want laying hens i would suggest Rhode Island Red, New Hampshire, Leghorn, Plymoth Rock and Buff Orpington. I have these hens and can get almost a dozen eggs in about half a week with only 6 laying.

I'm new to chickens as well. We are getting our first chicks this coming week! Lots of helpful info on this forum, and the members are great! Good to have you here. :)

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! TSC can be a fine place to get chicks, Red Sex Links are great layers and TSC usually has some form of them, Orpingtons, Australorps, Sussex and Wyandottes are more breeds you might look at, and if you are interested in green/blue eggs they usually also carry Easter Eggers / Ameraucana.
