I am New to ducks and have found. I love my babies. Well about 20 weeks. Beefy and FifI. Starting to mate it seems, just waiting on eggs. Just wondering,I got then from a friend when they were 10 weeks ish. Was it to late for them to imprint, they are friendly but not as attached as I thought they would be? I love the sight and respect all you animal lovers

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Be sure to check out the Ducks forum https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks older birds will still become tame, but not as well as ones you raised from ducklings, but if you send time with them and especially feed them treats etc, they should come around pretty well.

Welcome to BYC!

Kelsie X2 Keep working with them and they will tame up. Babies you raised yourself are always more bonded with you, but you can get these much more friendly if you work with them. Go easy with them, use food as an incentive, (food is positive reinforcement to positive things) and go sit with them every day and spend time with them. They will come around.

And definitely stop by our ducks section for more help and conversation on ducks. Enjoy your new babies and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC - imprinting generally takes place in the first day or so after hatching. Talk softly, get them to associate you with feed, be consistent in your approach and they will become quite tame. Keep in mind that as prey animals poultry generally don't like being approached from above. Enjoy them.

Welcome to BYC! I'm a chicken person and don't know a lot about ducks (although I've had a few). But I have to admit that ducklings are the ultimate in cute. Good luck with your ducks.
