Hello!
I've noticed like does seem to attract like, and if I leave all my chooks of all breeds, ages etc mixing they inbreed by choice, even if the inbreeders are very different of appearance. They seem to be able to tell which chook has the most instinct, and that's the sexiest. Bantams and silky mixes seem to be 'sexier' than other breeds to all other breeds. I've had a lot of surrogate mums of all sorts of breeds who are 'racist' AGAINST their own color... i.e black hen killing black chicks and keeping whites or reds or striped ones, and white hens killing white chicks to keep the black ones, and some hens who won't tolerate striped or spotted chicks... So I don't know the answer to your question, sorry.
Maybe, in the case of chooks that were raised together, it's just a case of them remaining with the flock that's familiar with them and won't attack them?
