I am brand new to keeping chickens, just got my small coop and run combo today. The plan is to build a nice pen to keep predators our and our small flock in and safe. I hope to start out with 3-4 hens, we can't have roosters where I live.
I don't know where we're getting our chicks from yet, but am excited to get started!
A few things I was curious about ...
When you buy chicks, can I be sure to just buy hens?
What do the chicks eat? same thing as mature birds?

I'm sure I'll find my answers here somewhere.
:)

Hello! Welcome you BYC and thanks for joining the community! Good luck with your chickens!

You can buy chicks from an online hatchery or Tractor Supply
Chicks need different food than hens. New chicks will eat starter feed and then work their way up through the kinds as they get older. I'm not sure about what they are all called.
