Hello all!
My husband and I are now the owners of three chickens (two Americana's and one Black and white bird? She is "Clucky" to us) as well as three ducks. We had purchased three baby chicks that were gold tipped winged birds and two died within days. The third one was doing okay and then got very weak and died today. Also we had a teenage bird (mix) who was doing great and also got weak and died yesterday. We have no idea of we have done wrong. All the others seem fine.

We have just hatched a baby chicken from the incubator and are now worried about her. Is there any advice you all my have. This is heartbreaking to us and we hope to fix this issue asap!

Thank you!!

I'm thinking some sort of disease that will kill a whole flock at once. Fowl Pox? Avian Influenza? Some preventative measures you can take to ensure the rest of your flock's safety: Quarantine the new chick and DO NOT let her come in contact with equipment, clothing, or anything else that the other birds have touched. Wash hands thoroughly after touching or being near your other birds. Do not bring new birds into your flock. Do not borrow equipment of anything from neighbors or friends. Call a vet to test your (living) birds and if you still have the deceased birds or if any more die, save the body in the freezer for an autopsy. Any symptoms in your birds? Pictures would be helpful. It probably won't be cheap, but it would most likely save the rest of your birds and any birds near you. I'm sorry this is happening to you, but, as they say, bad things happen to good people. Best of luck, Rachel.

What were you using to heat the brooder? It's best to have 2 different thermometer-hygrometers or even more to be sure of accurate readings. Chicks can die from too much heat as well as too little. They need space in the brooder so if they are too hot, they can move to a cooler section & vice versa.

Were they eating/drinking well or did you just see them standing around. How did their poo look, bloody, runny, what color, etc?
