Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

Pics
Oh and i wanted to share something with you guys. When my brother bought his OEGB from this "old timer" what i could do about my aggressive mature cock i bought this year. He would back yup and hunker down if i put my hand in his pen to jump and bite at me, or he would scootch his butt like he wanted to spur me. The guy said to spray him in the face with a water bottle right as they go to do it, i did it a couple times and he is such a peach now! I don't have to worry about him!!! idk if it will work with other agressive roos, but it did for me so i thought i would share! The key is to get them in the face, lol, sounds mean but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

Thank you!!! She actually got a bit nicer when we put her in with the rest of the flock, because the polish and the leghorns "Taught her a lesson", but she wasn't hurt. However, they had a hard time catching her because she was so small, fast, and she can fly like a plane!!!!

Also, if I wanted to get into breeding, are they a hard breed to breed? I know there is a LOT of competition. Also, is dubbing REALLY that bad? Is there a LOT of blood, or just a few drops?

I wouldn't say they are that hard to breed, i think they are easier then my duccles because i don't have to worry about feathered feet. There is a lot of competition but if you really like the breed that shouldn't be something to stop you from working with them. My brothers is starting to breed and show Whites and Buffs this year. As for dubbing, we havn't done it yet, i think we are dubbing next weekend.

Here are some pictures.... not the best, because she wanted to get back into her pen.

Her posing.... Kinda!

Fanning her tail... I think her tail is pretty nice!

Can you tell me what I could improve on her/ if she looks show quality? Thanks.

I ain't an old timer but im here is what i think. She overall looks good, the biggest thing i see is i would like to see some improvement in her overall shape and tope line. I would like to see her wings closer and tighter. It's hard to jude from pictures. Overall she looks good, it also looks like she was trying to move forward in the picture, so that would throw someone off. I would like to see more slope from her head down her neck to her shoulders and to the point of her tail and the angle of her tail could come up some more.

There is a breeder in our area that does really well with blacks and i am always drooling over his birds, i dont know his name tho.

i can look back in old show entry lists if you want and tell ya, just send me a Pm.

Her tail does go up more, and her wings are a little closer, but in order for her to stand still I had to make her squat a little. Thanks for the advice!!!! No, you don't have to look up the breeder, I'm just interested. I am technically allowed to have a rooster, but my mom doesn't want one, however if she changes her mind, I'm gonna get into breeding. Thanks, Sam.

NP! Think i will have some f1 Buff project eggs in the spring, ill give you some if you want, just send me a message in the spring! The breeder i get my whites from (Jeff Nixon) uses blacks in his breeding program for the whites to improve feather quality. Where did you get your hen from?

I got her from a guy (Don't know his name) at the North-Eastern Poultry Congress, with a few other OEGB's in the pen and next to it a whole bunch of moderns. her feather quality is pretty good, has hard quills. I wonder how long it takes for him (Jeff) to get the black out of the whites??? If I do get into breeding, which I probably won't unless I get a rooster, I would definitely not get another one from there, but instead a breeder that I know his name and everything!!!

LOL, it's all good, just next time ask his name or when you see the sales tag write down the exhibitor number and go to the show secretary and look the name up and keep it for records or if the name is on it write it down for records. OEGBs are Dominant white, so the f1 are white, you can tell if a white bird has some black in it if you look at the feathers where the leg scales meet. If the bird is clean and has some grey/black feathers there it means there is some black in it's breeding.
