Hello.... and what am I thinking?

I think it's a great idea! I just got my first chicks three years ago and I'm in my 40s. My kids are teens and older but they really like the chicks and chickens, and my 17 year old son really enjoys them and will help me with coop cleaning which is a blessing!

It's great for kids to see chicks grow into chickens, and see the first eggs being layed...They learn how to have the responsibility of caring for a farm animal and that's something alot of kids miss out on.....

So I say good for you! I think you'll enjoy it!

(Oh, and don't worry about the meat comment....LOL)

. From Austin Texas I say go for it. You won't regret it. Just remember to check in with BYC for great ideas on coops and just about everything else you need to know.

and welcome from SW Ohio!
You will start with 5 and have more b4 long. That's a given lol.... just make sure and build the coop twice as big as you had planned!
You and your family will LOVE them!!!

There are quite a number of folks on this forum doing just what you are talking about.

Welcome to the chicken addiction.

That's great news, since that's what I'm hoping to do too!!! No Roosters allowed in my neighborhood!
