Hello,
New to BYC but not completely new to Chickens. Bought 11 last year and had an amazing flock. Friendly too. Lost one to an animal, no biggie. I live in the country, I am used to that. I had RIR, Barred rocks, Marans, a Wyandotte, cinnamon queen, and 2 easter Eggers. About a month and a half ago I lost all but one EE. A mink got into the coop and killed 9 in one night. I have redone the coop and I dealt with the mink. Found him 15 ft from my coop. So I am now New to incubating chicks. I have 6 chicks I purchased at the store, 20 in the incubator. Some from my old flock. 4 have hatched, One I had to help. She was stuck. I had to run water to remove the membrane after I helped her get out. She is drying but I don't know if she will make it. 6 more pipped one is zipping but slow. So who knows what my final flock will be.

So far, a polish, a phoenix, a maran, a buff, a cochin, 2 RIR I think, a mixbreed EE and either maran or black sexlink, waiting for a few more EE to hatch. Should end up with about 20-30 because the my daughter wants a specific breed I have to order so I need 14 plus hers. It shall be interesting.

So for the other parts, Married with a boy 7 and a girl 10. Both in 4H. My wifes a teacher, I Grain farm with my Father in law and do Farm Drainage. We have two indoor cats which post a challenge to the incubator. I have about 15 farm cats at the farm, not at my farm, LOL. Found lots of Info on BYC so I finally decided to join. That's all for now.....

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.
