Hello all! Excited to join this community as people are sick of me talking about my poultry and other critterS! Hoping to find some like minds. I have raised poultry since moving to the country in 2001. I like to try different breeds every year and very much enjoy watching and getting to know and caring for my flock.
I try and keep my flock under 30 head. I do send the older chickens to freezer camp or sell to others for eating.
I currently have a nice little mixed group I incubated, a mix of Asian black (rooster) and leghorn, welsummer and isa brown hens. I also have some very nice PB buff standard cochins, bantam calico cochins and old English lemon blue bantams.
I recently added a buff dewlap touluse trio from Allison Grell a pair of ancona ducks and 9 assorted guinea fowl!
I have used backyard chickens for awhile as a source of information in the care of my animals but never took the time to join. in the past I was involved with a few other livestock groups who became pretty harsh with some members...I am hoping to find a good "no drama/great information/friendly people" experience here!
I currently have about 15 goats (a mix of meat and dairy) a baby donkey I'm raising on goat's milk, Flemish Giant rabbits, two barn cats and a Golden retriever.
My husband and I have two grown children. He is a computer engineer~ a weekend warrior on this hobby farm and I have my own dog grooming salon on location. I am a Christian and teach sunday school at a local church. I help to educate young 4-H kids who want to learn more about farm animals.
My latest task will be trying to successfully breed and incubate my buff dewlap goose eggs...I have done chickens ducks and sebatopol geese successfully...will I be successful with dewlaps???? find out in the winter/spring of 18!
guess that's all there is to know about ME! Look forward to meeting other farm loving friends as I become a member of your little community!
Glad to meet You and Happy Thanksgiving!
