Hello from middle Tennessee! My husband and I have 12 silkie chickens in our backyard run who we just adore. We currently have 10 pullets and 2 cockerels, all between 4-9 months old. We got them from a few different farms so we have a variety of colors and they are finally coming together as one little family (yet the pecking order shifts still continue on…it’s like a soap opera some days!😂) We’re hoping to get some other breeds (that will be more focused for laying) this next year. Our silkies are mostly just fun pets🙂

I’ve already benefitted from multiple threads on here as I’m still a fairly new chicken mama and encountering things I don’t know almost daily (only about 6 months in with the flock) & I’m so grateful! Hopefully as I get some more experience I’ll have more to offer others as well.

Thanks for the awesome community this is! Excited to meet others on here & hear about your flocks!

Welcome to BYC. If you decide to get layers, let your silkies go broody and slip some hatchery pullet chicks under them. It will save you so much stress if you let the hens raise them. Try not to bring any adults into your flock. There are many diseases that they can carry.
