Just got our chicks on Tuesday, I know they are heritage birds but I forgot (over 55) what they are and need to call the folks I got them from to get breeds again. It not the first batch we ever had, we raised 52 broilers many years ago but then moved into town. Know we are starting again, they are dual purpose and we should have 8 to 10 hens and a rooster for eggs and also 10 or 12 mixed for meat and soup. Built my own coop and hope I got it right, came to the forums here for most answers to my questions and hope to share my experiences as we go. Oh by the way we live in the western U.P. of Michigan so it should be interesting. Thanks again all for being here to provide all the food for thought!

Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock. Michigan has a very good state thread, if you'd like to see what's going on in your state, go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum. Then you can locate and post on your state thread. You may even find other chicken folks near.
