Hello, BYC!

Love your intro. Your girl got better after an impacted crop? Need to share how you helped her out! WELCOME!
I think it was impacted, not sour crop. There was never any bad smell or liquid. It was clearly full of hay and not emptying overnight - we'd had a bunch of snow, and new chickens were quarantined in barn aisle, so hen had access to stored hay area and outside, but mostly stayed in hay storage area. I kept giving her syringes of water and water plus plain yogurt, and massaging her crop. She wouldn't eat, and poop went from bright green to small amounts of diarrhea. First two days were Sunday and a holiday, so I just kept at it. Slowly it got smaller and smaller. She wouldn't eat again, however, so I took her to the vet and they put her on an oral steroid. In a couple more days she perked up and finally got off of her roost to eat and drink. My vet neighbor (not a chicken vet) thought she was going to require surgery, but new chicken vet said she had improved enough to not need it, and that it was risky. Anyway, that was it! Initially I thought she was egg bound, so I also learned how to um, check for that. Thank goodness for the internet.
