(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am very new to chickens. I grew up visiting my uncle's small homestead farm, but I am a first time chicken owner myself. We just purchased a home on a few acres in agriculture zoning and I am so excited to start raising chickens there.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have about 20 day old chicks purchased and ready to show up in the mail in March 2018. Right now I'm spending my time doing lots of research and preparation.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Buff Laced Polish Standard
Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
Barnevelder Female
Salmon Faverolle
Silver Laced Polish Standard
Speckled Sussex
Austra White
New Hampshire Red
Rhode Island Red
Blue Ameraucana
Olive Egger

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
The google machine is a fabulous resource!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
theatre, scuba diving, drinking coffee, collecting mugs

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I grew up in the dog fancy and am a judge for the American Kennel Club. I'm excited to start my little homestead!

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

The Learning Centre is a great resource. Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles to also be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Welcome to BYC! We're glad to have you here! You sure have a nice selection of breeds!
Hi there!

Thank you! I'm very excited to watch them grow and see the rainbow of eggs they lay. My first project in our new house will be building them a huge beautiful coop and run! I plan to convert a large empty shed.
