Hello chicken huggers,
We are fairly new chicken owners - a beautiful Andalusian Blue wandered into our yard this summer after the rest of her flock were eaten by foxes at her previous digs up the street. Her former owners didn't want her back, and we fell in love with her (how could you not?!), so we built her a big pen to protect her (live in the Santa Cruz mountains with bobcats, mountain lions, foxes, racoons, etc). Named her Colette. After a month or so we got three babies to keep her company and they all get along now (one White Brahman & 2 black Australorps). Their names are Marlene (Dietrich), Isabella (Rossellini) and Hildegard. ;-)
We love our chickens, and Colette is a great layer (5 eggs a week). The little ones are quickly growing up - they are about 3 months old now.
We found BYC when Colette first wandered into our yard, and I wanted to know how to care for her. So happy for this site, and all your advice!
