Hi,

My family and I recently moved from California and are now in Wilmington, NC. I finally have the space to build my chicken coop and am so excited to join BYC. I am currently looking for places to buy my chicks (January/Feb) as I am planning their home now. Any suggestions are welcome. Look forward to getting to know you all. Thanks, Loretta

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Congrats on your move!

Are you wanting to buy chicks locally, from a hatchery or here on BYC? For hatcheries, Meyer hatchery, MyPetChicken and Mcmurry hatchery are all great and reliable. If you are wanting to buy them here on BYC, then here are some links to check out

Buying chick locally is a great choice in my opinion. You can observe and hold the chicks, talk with the sales people and really understand what you are getting into.

Here is a link to our learning center where you'll find tons more info on getting started.

Good luck!

You need 20 posts Before you can participate in the Buy,sell, trade forum. Right now you can go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum, you can locate and post on you state thread. That would put you in touch with others who may have the birds you are seeking. Welcome to Backyard chickens.

Welcome to BYC, Loretta! Glad you decided to join our flock. I love your avatar; very romantic. :o) I have ordered chicks from four different hatcheries, multiple times, on a number of different occasions; Dunlap Hatcheries (http://dunlaphatchery.net/), Murray McMurray Hatchery (https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/index.html), Ideal Poultry (http://www.idealpoultry.com/), and Cackle Hatchery (http://cacklehatchery.com/), and have been happy with all their birds and services. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chicks do you want?

We're glad to have you.

Mountain Peeps has given you some good links to start with. Good luck with your future flock!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

The others have given you some great links to follow in hope of finding some chicks. Many feed stores carry them each spring as well. So check with them first. Just be careful when ordering in the winter. Always wait until your temps are warm and staying well above freezing at night. Chicks will die from exposure in cold temps on the mail trucks.

Enjoy this new journey you are on and welcome to our flock!
