Uh oh, pretty sure the Rose has bumblefoot. Her right foot is swollen and she's limping ever so slightly. Naturally, she's the most flighty chicken on the farm!

Bummer about the foot infection. Bumble foot is such a pain. And the loss of the pullet! but good thing you caught it in death throws so could still process her.Well, the left foot actually was very rewarding. The right foot is gonna be a headache. I think the infection is all thick cheesy stuff, I got some out but its still super swollen.
Also, we lost a buckeye pullet to a freak accident. She was fine this morning, and I'm pretty sure she ran to greet us with the rest of the flock. But by the time we got to the gate she was down, just a little flapping. Best guess is she broke her neck? I went ahead and brought her home to process her. She was so close to laying, maybe next week.
Only bright side is that she was one of the pullets I wanted to cull anyway. And she dressed out beautifully. I forgot to get a weight before processing, but she was 3.8lbs dressed weight.
Wow he's massive! I need a bodyguard like that...View attachment 4233943Rose soaking her feet. Tonight's bandage change was not as rewarding as the last one. But the swelling is still going down, bit by tiny little bit.
Rose's giant boyfriend watched us with great concern as we worked on her feet tonight. But he was a good boy and didn't try to intervene. As soon as Rose hit the ground, one of the buckeye cockerels jumped her immediately. The malines (both of them) were having none of that and cave to her rescue. View attachment 4233954
Look at him standing guard!
A few minutes later, her bodyguards had gone around the corner of the coop and Rose was by herself at the waterer when the buckeye tried again. This time Rose whipped around and sent him packing before her boyfriend could make it around the corner![]()
