Ainawgsd's farm chickens

Uh oh, pretty sure the Rose has bumblefoot. Her right foot is swollen and she's limping ever so slightly. Naturally, she's the most flighty chicken on the farm!

Ah nuts! It's double bumblefoot 😑

The right foot is by far the worst

But she has a scab on the left foot too.

I only brought enough bandage material for one foot, so we cleaned and wrapped the right foot. Tomorrow I think we'll go out during daylight and do a longer soak and a more thorough cleaning. Not looking forward to catching her up though. 😮‍💨

Well, the left foot actually was very rewarding. The right foot is gonna be a headache. I think the infection is all thick cheesy stuff, I got some out but its still super swollen.

Also, we lost a buckeye pullet to a freak accident. She was fine this morning, and I'm pretty sure she ran to greet us with the rest of the flock. But by the time we got to the gate she was down, just a little flapping. Best guess is she broke her neck? I went ahead and brought her home to process her. She was so close to laying, maybe next week.
Only bright side is that she was one of the pullets I wanted to cull anyway. And she dressed out beautifully. I forgot to get a weight before processing, but she was 3.8lbs dressed weight.

Bummer about the foot infection. Bumble foot is such a pain. And the loss of the pullet! but good thing you caught it in death throws so could still process her.

How do you typically cook your younger processed birds?

With the buckeye cockerels we processed a few weeks ago we've baked, air fried, and stir fried. The legs have more texture than cornishX, but they're not chewy.
