Hello chicken world.

:welcome :frow Not sure what amount of current your electric netting puts out but bears have pretty thick hides and can tear down some electric netting/fences. Some people bait their fence/netting/wires so that the bear will touch the hot wires with it's more sensitive parts such as the nose, lips, or tongue and hopefully it will get the message. I have electric wires around my coops and pens. They average around 10,000+ volts. So far nothing has messed with them. Some predators have tested them but do not try again. I think the adult predators teach their young that whatever is on the other side of the hot wires isn't worth getting zapped for. You will find a lot of good information here BYCArticles.jpg Good luck with your birds and have fun...

The netting seems to stay near 8000 volts pretty consistently. I caught a bear on trail cam inspecting the fence, but didn't see if it actually touched it. I believe this to be last year's yearling that we saw when we first moved in. Mama has a new cub this year, and the bear at the fence was a little small. I got the imprespion that it knew what the fence was, but that probably says more about me than the bear

I'll definitely check that article out. I think if we keep everything mobile I'm relying on the fence entirely. Anything light enough to move can be knocked over by bear.
