You should seek out some American gamefowl. They come in many colors and you could pick what you like. They prbably will not be cheap, but a good source is Craigs List. I see them often in my area. The main problem you may encounter is loss due to predators. Daytime loss for gamefowl is minimal, for the reasons you have mentioned. Night loss, due to owls, or perhaps coons or bobcats, could cut down on your population quickly, if they get started on your flock. I live in a similar area and the best deterent, so far, has been a dog. Other than the predator situation, gamefowl are the closest thing to wild chickens you will find.........Pop
