Hello, this is the second attempt to post so I hope it works this time.
we had chickens for about 2 months now. I bought 8 cross broilers at my local grange about 7 weeks ago and decided to add three Barred Rock hens for eggs.
I bought the B.R.s from a guy that was recommended by an employee of a feed store. Funny thing is I had read posts here for more than a week on the breed and still think I have wound up with 3 roosters.
These were represented as 5 month olds that had begun to lay. If what I have read here is true then they are colored like roosters but none of them crow !! None of them lay eggs either but they sure square off eyeball to eyeball, neck feathers spread and jumping as if to spur each other. They also attack the smaller broilers so I had to separate them.
If I can figure out how to post pictures of them I will but I could really use some help on this because if they are in fact roosters, they are headed to the frying pan.

. Looks like roos to me but I don't raise chickens so I'm not sure

Welcome to BYC

In the first two picks the chicken in front (orange band) looks to be a pullet to me.
Third (green band) pic. I'm not sure but leaning toward Roo
Fourth (blue band) pic almost positive a rooster.

I'm judging by comb and wattle size only. Close up on the saddle feathers would very helpful too.

As for the eyeballing and feather fluffing, I've got hens that did that and I am 100% sure they are hens, the proof is in the eggs.

Well, thanks to all who replied. I don't think I've got the hang of saddle feather id . I went out and looked twice and still can not say with any degree of confidence which feathers I'm looking at.
I will take more pictures tomorrow morning when the light is better and post them so that maybe some one can see what I can't.
It looks like the joke is on me for buying roosters being sold as hens. I can safely say that I won't buy there again.

Hi and :welcome

That's a bummer that you ended up with roos.
Although I agree with Darklingstorm, there are a couple of pullets in there. They have smaller combs than the roos.

I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. :D

I can see at least on roo in your pics, sorry! Unfortunately it happens. I bought 40 chicks once and all but one were roosters

Hi guys i have been and am caught up in a problem with my wife's new car so I have not been able to get some better pictures yet. These guys are still a little skittish around me and its hard to get close up pictures. The one with the light green band I believe is a rooster and I think may have some kind of illness. I say this because of his poop. It smells really really bad and is runny brown(sorry). I am not set up to isolate him but will if I find out he has a problem. Any input about this ???
I will try my best to get some good single pictures tomorrow.
thank you one and all, Bruce
