Hi everyone, my name is actually Beverly, not Makeitso...

I share an older home on a huge lot on the outskirts of a big city with my daughter and 3 of my 11 grandchildren. Our small family are like so many other families in our country-- we are getting smart about food choices and just beginning to meet the challenges of self sufficiency in these uncertain times.
I was fortunate to have been raised on a small farm and as an adult have always wanted to get back to that lifestyle.
So our chicken adventure began a few weeks ago when I noticed we were out of eggs..."not again!! geesh I just bought 18... " So I thought I'd just check out craigslist to see what chickens were selling for. Before I knew it we were loading up the car and driving out just "see" a few chickens....somehow when we got home and unloaded the car, there were two new additions to the family..... (I still don't know how those chickens ended up in the car

).
Now, I had figured one of my grandsons would be the "chicken whisperer" in the family....not so....turns out my 9 year old grand daughter Ashtyn has the magic touch when it comes to chickens and has decided to take on the responsibility for their care (with gma's help).
So far so good, we've built their small coop out of an old dresser frame and misc wood around the property, I'll post some pics another day. That's all for now, thanks for having a great site to come to. I've got tons to read
