Raising chickens in AZ just requires a lot of shade and other creative ways to keep them cool in summer. Maybe a bit of creativity with your coop too.

not OP but curious. How do you protect them in dust storms?

Mine just go hang out in the coop during those. I have an attached run on the coop, so I don't free-range. They can easily get in there to get out of the higher wind's, dust storm's, and rain.
