Hey Guys, I'm Amber, I just got a red and brown ameruacana chick, which I named Camilla, she's about 8 weeks now. I've had ducklings and goslings in the past as house pets, so years later I figured I'd try out a chicken. I've quickly learned that chickens are vastly different then water fowl. Initially I thought I would raise Cammie in the house, but now realize having her outside would be better for her. I plan on keeping her outdoors during the day and bringing her in for family time and then bedtime. The problem being, she's my only chicken and I don't want to put her out all alone. The way things are now, when she's out I also put out my pugs to keep her company. I've noticed that while out she just peeks around the door and has no interest in exploring the grass. I want to get another chick and hand raise her as well, them when my new hen is big enough build them both a safe outdoor area. The feed store I got Cammie, in addition to Ameraucanas have RIRs, Barred rocks and leghorns, which are the most docile and would get along with Cammie? I'd like a different breed, Cammie doesn't mind being held and petted, but I have to catch her to do so, I'd like a chicken that more open to snuggling. What do you guys think? And will I have a problem introducing a singular chick? I don't have a "flock", our family is our flock and Cammie has the run of the house. It's a slightly different situation, but maybe you guys have some suggestions. Oh, and it's very nice to meet you all
