Hey Guys, I'm Amber, I just got a red and brown ameruacana chick, which I named Camilla, she's about 8 weeks now. I've had ducklings and goslings in the past as house pets, so years later I figured I'd try out a chicken. I've quickly learned that chickens are vastly different then water fowl. Initially I thought I would raise Cammie in the house, but now realize having her outside would be better for her. I plan on keeping her outdoors during the day and bringing her in for family time and then bedtime. The problem being, she's my only chicken and I don't want to put her out all alone. The way things are now, when she's out I also put out my pugs to keep her company. I've noticed that while out she just peeks around the door and has no interest in exploring the grass. I want to get another chick and hand raise her as well, them when my new hen is big enough build them both a safe outdoor area. The feed store I got Cammie, in addition to Ameraucanas have RIRs, Barred rocks and leghorns, which are the most docile and would get along with Cammie? I'd like a different breed, Cammie doesn't mind being held and petted, but I have to catch her to do so, I'd like a chicken that more open to snuggling. What do you guys think? And will I have a problem introducing a singular chick? I don't have a "flock", our family is our flock and Cammie has the run of the house. It's a slightly different situation, but maybe you guys have some suggestions. Oh, and it's very nice to meet you all :)

! Pleased you joined our flock! I've only introduced chicks to groups of older chickens...never tried to intro a singular bird to another so I'm not sure if the dynamic would change or not. In terms of "snuggly" chickens...I've heard silkies are good for that. But I think if any breed of chicken is bribed and babied it can be quite pet-able. Good luck to you!

i have Barred Rocks, and they aren't the friendliest birds, but from what i've read they are better that RIR or leghorns. my friendliest hens are orpingtons. at the same time, like redsoxs said, most birds can be trained to be cuddly.
