I'm so excited, Oh my names Kat. I currently have one porcelain hen and her names Ally. She's so loving and a joy to be around.
Guess you may wonder how I got started. Well fifteen years ago my husband Charlie and I went to a bird show and came home with a day old silkie for my daughter. We were excited and our daughter Michelle raised that chick and we were in love. She stayed in the house in a dog crate at night and she went out in the morning and begged to come in at night it was adorable. Unfortunately she passed away 5 years later. It broke our hearts, but we couldn't bare trying again. Then four months ago my husband said lets get another chicken! Well that's all I had to hear and I started looking. Searched for sometime and had no luck locating silkies. My friend had some pullets and I had to have one. Glad I decided too, she's great. But my husband wanted a silkie. So we are still looking. Going to the Poultry Show in Oct 2014. Can't wait!!!! He said he wants only one more, but I think at least two. :) HeHe Sorry just get soooo excited, someone to talk too that loves the same as me.

Welcome to BYC, Kat! Sorry about the loss of your Silkie, but Ally is a beautiful bird. No disrespect intended to your husband, but getting two more chickens to keep Ally company is a good idea. Chickens are gregarious birds and like the company of others. By having three, if something happens to one of them, then the other two still have each other for company. Just introduce them slowly to each other. There is a good article on introducing new chickens to the flock at http://poultrykeeper.com/general-chickens/introducing-new-chickens Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to BYC. If you are still looking for a silkie - try the "Silkie Thread," (just put that in search.

OR go to "where am I, where are you." in the social forum. You can locate and post on your state thread and see if anyone near you has silkies.
