Hello,
My name is Christy and I have been raising chickens for 3 years. I am a 24 yr old registered nurse in graduate school so my schedule is busy, but I always find time to hang out with my chickens. I have 14 in total, egg layers and a selection of bantams. My favorites are my silkies and seramas. I actually just incubated some of my bantams eggs for the first time and am happy to report 3/4 have hatched and are doing very well. I believe they will be silkie serama cross (I plan on separating after more start laying). I am very excited to try new things and make my chickens happier. They are something I love to find in common with people and could talk forever about them. I have used this site for many years to answer many questions (including curing chickens of sour crop, and wry neck). I am very thankful for the community here so I am happy to join you all :) Thank you for being so welcoming and for all the support!

Welcome, Glad to see that you are starting to post. It's great to hear what others are up to. Would love to see some pictures of your flock.

Hi! I just signed on also. I love my chickens! Only have 6 presently, one rooster and 5 hens. No eggs just yet. I like reading about all the different breeds that people prefer. Wanting to see what other table scraps you feed to your chickens. So glad to be here!!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, everyone!
Ice Angel, thank you. I agree, I love hearing new ideas, troubleshooting, and general enjoyment people get from their flock.
Miss Fierce, welcome to you too! And congrats on your new flock! I know it's hard being patient for eggs, but soon enough you'll be flowing in them :) I really just feed my crumbles, but have fed them lettuce scraps and I raise mealworms and they LOVE them as a special treat....and so easy to maintain the worms.
And sunny, thank you so much! Yes I was very happy with the success thus far. The 4th definitely has a fetus in it, but don't think it is alive :( But for the first time, I am very pleased, just wish I had them all of course. And thank you for all your kind words. Thanks everyone! its awesome to meet you :)

Hi Christy, welcome to BYC!

Congratulations on a successful hatch, would love to see pictures of your birds. I'm glad to hear BYC has been helpful when you needed it and it's nice that now you'll be able to help out others.

Good to have you here!

Welcome to BYC!

There's an excellent chart of healthy treats in the Learning Center...I've found it very helpful, maybe you will too:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/chicken-treat-chart-the-best-treats-for-backyard-chickens

You'll want to keep the treats down to no more than 10% of their feed so they don't fill up on treats and not eat their nutritionally balanced feed. But it's fun to see how excited they get with something special.

Good luck with your flock and it's nice to have you here!

Nice to meet you Christy. My friend has house pet indoor chickens 2 seramas 2 silkies. I wonder what your cross will look like mature. Very interesting - I would think they will be the broodiest chicks once they grow up.

Greetings all!
My name is Mike and I, too, am a Chicken-holic. I do not presently have my own, but intend to raise them. I live in a town that doesn't presently permit the keeping of poultry, but my friend has ducks and I have promised to help her. A neighbor reported her for keeping her ducks. I am friends with the Mayor and a few City Coucilmen and will do my best to foster a change in the municipal code.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, everyone!

How do you maintain the worms. I need a very simple method, lol, or they just get what comes in bags.
