Tomorrow, my hubs and I will begin the renovations to build a coop for some new chickens. Any suggestions for building? TIA

Build it secure...
Make sure nothing can dig under it...(hardwire cloth around the edges/cement trench all the way around)
Good ventilation up high...

A nice wide poop board with horse stall freshener.Sweet PDZ or Zeo is most popular around here. It takes no time to clean with a cat litter scoop. Helps amazingly to soak up the ammonia smell. I can't have a coop without it.

Please for any wire applications choose 1/2" hardware cloth and NOT flimsy poultry wire. Chicken wire ONLY keeps chickens in, it does NOTHING to keep predators out.

The hardware cloth does cost more but, lasts much longer and predators cannot bite or slice through it like chicken wire.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
