Hello from Nevada. We are sort of new to chickening but not. We acquired our first batch of hens from a free source. 4 Rohde Reds, 2 Astrolops, 2 Salt and Pepper Colored, 1 Buff, 1 Bantam. We bought a Blue Isbar for a lady locally. We had them for a while and a few of the Reds have passed. About a year later we got 5 easter eggers from a friend. We lost one to a dog and one to sickness. This spring our son in law thought it would be fun to get a chick for the kids. So we ended up adopting the one Rohde Red and bought one more and 2 golden sex links and 2 ayem cemani. Just the other day in a rain storm I looked out the window and saw an easter egger get blown off the fence so my wife and I went out side to check on her. I leaned down to get her because I though she was hurt and she tried to peck me and fluffed up. A light bulb went off and I thought she is broody. My wife spotted an egg under her. We were super excited. A few days later she was in the run with the other chickens and I ran over to count eggs. 15!! 7-14-17 My wife was feeding out small farm and heard what she thought was peeping. She was right. So far 5 chicks. That is out chicken life so far.
