Hi to all!
Happy to be here with you!
I'm from Montreal countryside in Canada where I live with my husband, sometime my kids (at 18 and 21, they spend a lot more time away then at home), my 2 dogs, my son's cat, my daughter's hedgehog and my flock of 9 hens. By the way, since I'm french, sorry if my writing sound weird
So my story with my flock...
We decided, 3 years ago, to jump in the adventure of having our own flock. We were becoming more and more sensible to the industry of eggs and didn't want to be a part of it. And since we live in a big woody area, we thought that it would be nice for them. So we started with 3 3weeks old chicks. We fell in love and decided to get more. Sadly, with one of the batch came a parasite and we lost a lot of them. So we decided to wait and see if we could manage the disease. The next year, my oldest one decided she wanted to brood. Really wanted. She had tried a couple time before durant the winter but it's cold over here so the timing was really not good and we manage to break her brooding. But at the spring, there was no way could manage to break it this time. So we gave her some eggs (and put some in an incubator in case she didn't do a good job at brooding/hatching), followed the "hatching Eggs 101" very closely and finally got 10 chicks. After some loses and roosters (we are not allowed of roosters here) we finally got our flock of 9 hens.
Now, again this year, she had her brooding time so we gave her some eggs again and they are hatching since yesterday. But this year, she is not alone brooding; 2 other hens decided they wanted to become mommies. But they are not as good and motherly as the other one and it's kind of complicated...
So that's about it for my story! Happy to be in the gang!
