Hello Everyone!

Good Morning,

We're new to raising hens and are loving our mixed Black Australorp chicks (now nearly 13 weeks!) We have lots to learn, but these hens (and maybe a few roosters???) are really sweet-natured additions to our family. Sadly, we're not allowed to have roosters in our community, but they are sure gentle and friendly beings. Do these look like they are trending towards roosters... I think I know the answer but they are really friendly and affectionate (as far as chickens go), and we really don't want them to find a new home...

Thank you.

Hi! Glad you joined us!

Welcome to BYC from Arizona! This is the place to be for all your chicken news, connections to helpful chicken folks and more!
@HensKY are you from/in Kentucky? I was born there. If you do need to rehome/cull them you might find someone close by in the Where am I? Where are You? forum for your state.
Surprisingly I have found a rooster refuge (thru craigslist) close by me although I keep my roosters or cull them myself when necessary.
We are in NKY, but I grew up in Lexington. Our eggs came from a family friend who keeps a flock in Spencer Co. and lent us an incubator and all the gear to hatch these chicks in August. We thought it would be great for the kiddos to witness the miracle of eggs hatching and then return them to their flock in September... Flash forward to mid-November and we've all grown attached to our little brood- even our dog and cat! Maybe they'll be "quiet" roosters, no one will notice, and they can stay! I think we're big fans of having (sub)urban chickens, and believe we'll keep a few for years to come. It's been a great experience and now hope these chicks enjoy their stay with us.

Here are some "better" pics of our gang. We think, but hope, we don't have 4 roosters....

The first one is of the "flock," the second is of the "twins," the third is just a beautiful bird, and the final is a small sweetheart.
