Hello everyone. I’m Ditch. I’m 48 years old and have been around poultry my entire life. Literally.
I thought I’d start out using the template provided by the forum.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
In regards to being new to chickens, that’s a negative. The farm I live on has been in my family for 101 years. My grandparents use to get 300 chickens every year. And every year we’d clean and process 200 chickens. I have been around poultry as long as I can remember.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 30
(3) What breeds do you have? Currently: chickens = saphire gems
Turkey = broad breasted whites
Also have racing pigeons
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I actually enjoy hanging out with them and watching them. The pest control & eggs are just bonus.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Riding my harleys. Taking my 67 GTO on cruises. Skydiving. Hunting, fishing, and trapping.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Im lucky. I’ve been married to my best friend for almost 30 years. I’m a father of four and a grandfather of 5.
I breed registered show cattle. And I work in the evil oil & gas business. Most people who don’t know any better think I’m destroying the earth because of the industry I work in but I really keep the world turning lol.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I actually found BYC because I’m in search of Rio Grand poults and this site showed up in my search so I joined.
