Helloooo!!
So excited to join this forum, I've had it on my radar for quite some time because I am new to chickens and I am desperate need of guidance. My main goal is to keep them happy and healthy. I love my chickens and It warms my heart to care for them.
I'm going to go off the prompt because otherwise I'll be typing until tomorrow.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes! I am new, and I got my chickens about 9 weeks ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have my original 12! They all survived "infancy"? lol
My husband surprised me with a 6 chicken coop, but we decided to get double that expecting to lose some due to inexperience,
but i guess i took really good care of them and they all survived. We just got them a huge walk in coop with a nice run, but we're going to extend that run into an open
but gated pen that way they have more space.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 2 Australorps 2 Speckled Sussex and 8 ISA Browns.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
OMG what's not to love? They are sassy, curious and super silly. They are still very young but I've handled them so much they all love being touched and even picked up. I don't have any eggs yet but I am really excited for that as well. The kids love feeding them and just hanging out with them. I have really friendly birds.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love scrapbooking, baking (it relaxes me), video games (my husband and I are huge gamers) and sleeping haha.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am a wife and a mom of 3 small children, two of which I homeschool. Right before getting our chickens we had moved from a major city to rural TN, and well, now we are getting the full experience. I gotta tell you, you couldn't pay me to go back, it's so beautiful out here.
We have a beautiful American Bulldog. She's very pretty and sweet and we love her despite not being the smartest... but she's great.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
So when my husband got me the coop I started looking at different chicken breeds. I wanted friendly birds that would get along with kids. This is how I found this site.
What made me join was the fact that I am constantly here reading and learning and I feel like I've found a place where I can chat with other people who love chickens as much as I do. I also have a ton more to learn and I want to make sure I get my information from experienced chicken owners.
Thank you so much for reading! Feel free to reply I am as friendly as my chickens lol
God Bless!
