Hello I am Kathy. i am a new chicken owner. I have always lived in city and now live on 6 acres in northern florida. I started with 110 hens and one rooster, hatched some eggs and got 2 hens and 9 roosters. I have always been an animal lover and love love having chickens. I still have all the roosters and they live together in a run. I have grown attached to them and they eat mealy worms from my lips. They ar3 not aggressive at all and I love spending time with them. Is this wierd? Do roosters get along if they are raised together? I have been a behaviorist most of lige and wonder if that is why they have bonded with me. What do you think?

Welcome. Well, you are talking to someone right now who is a rooster advocate. I absolutely love roosters. I have twenty chickens and three roosters. I think Roosters have more depth and breadth than hens, and I think they are always working to keep the flock safe. Mine let me pet them on their bellies. So...no, I don't think what you are saying is weird at all.

Howdy! Welcome to Backyard Chickens! We're so glad that you decided to join us! Yes, most of the time if you have a few roosters who were raised together, then they'll get along just fine. Especially if there are plenty of hens to go around. Spending alot of time with your chickens feeding, petting, holding etc., will definitely create a bond. I have 5 roosters right now and every single one of them lets me pick them up and handle them and have never once charged me. I'm glad that you're able to trust your roosters and have that bond with them!

Hello, and welcome to BYC! we’re so glad you joined the community!

Yes, that’s completely normal for the roosters to get along with each other as long as they have plenty of hens for all of them.

That’s so cool that you were able to keep all of them! I love hatching eggs but rehoming the males is always such a pain!

I don’t think it’s weird that you’ve grown attached to them at all! In fact, I think that’s awesome! I love all my chickens dearly, including my roosters, and spending time with them is one of my favorite things to do!

What breeds do you have? I know that with 121 chickens you’ve probably got more than you can count, but does your flock mainly consist of a few certain breeds?

Thanks again for joining, and welcome to BYC!
