Hello everyone!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Sorry for your losses. I keep my flock inside a coop with an attached run with a solid roof. Every opening is secured with 1/2" hardware cloth. I don't close the door between the coop and run. Ever. The entire setup sits inside a pen surrounded by poultry netting powered with a 10,000V/1.6J charger. I've only had one loss inside the pen in nearly 6 years. It was to a hawk strike.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

I am so sorry for your losses, :hugs predators are brutal. If you find you can't protect them well enough while free ranging, your best bet a giant well built covered run. Give them things to do, offer up leafy Alfalfa hay so they can get their wild greens, and they can be pretty happy. Best wishes with your flock!

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow So sorry for your losses. :hugs I remember when we started here around 8 years ago, we’d lose one every couple of months, during the day, as at night, nothing can get in our coop unless a bear tears a door off. Two dogs, solar motion lights, and wind spinners took care of that.

Ironically, last night the coyotes were so close we could hear them over the TV. The dogs go ballistic so they must be very hungry to have come that close.
