I am the proud mommy of four beautiful Delaware pullets that were hatched May 20 this year. At 7 weeks today they are active, happy, opinionated little goobers that I dearly love. They line up to get morning pets and love their new outdoor enclosure. They have been trying to let me know they are big girls for about two weeks as when I try to bring them in at night due to no coop yet they put up the most awful fuss screaming and squawking. Then they figure out how very tired they are and collapse in a heap. It is so cute.
But tonight they get to move into their permanent house, a 30"x50" coop with four nests, two perches and their very own window!!! It was ordered from cconly.com and it was simple to assemble with a screwdriver and wood glue! It is attached to a 6'x9'x5.5' coop that is homemade and easily expandable as my brother and I made it in panels.
I have found Delawares to be very nice, usually calm and intelligent so far. They are already great forages and love to explore when they are supervised since we have many hawks in our area.
I am very happy with my baby girls, but I would like non-commercially bred chicks next time as I would like to help the breed continue on the way from a critically endangered breed.

Thanks!

:welcome and good luck with your poultry adventure! :frow Sounds like your chicks are enjoying their new outdoor adventures. Mine are still in that "we're big chickens now" phase and won't go in until about 9:30
